Drashti
Netralaya is born out of the vision and commitment of eye care professionals
Dr. Mehul Shah and Dr. Shreya Shah arising out of the lack of basic
infrastructure in the second largest tribal belt of India, Dahod. Individuals
blessed with normal eyesight hardly have the idea of living life in darkness
and is highly undervalued. The gift
of sight is priceless for sure!!!
According
to the Right to Site, 80% of vision loss is preventable or treatable. Drashti
Netralaya contributes in combating the situation by the means of the International
Training & Research Centre at Dahod.
While it conducts mostly clinical research it also concentrates on operational
research. In India, a huge gap persists in the community of ophthalmic surgeons
as well as the awareness among the general public about eye care. The
International Training Centre is consistently active to bridge this gap by
providing formal and informal education as well as by inviting international
faculties.
The state
of the art infrastructure facility has made possible to undertake cataract
surgery, vitreo-retinal
surgery, ocuplasty surgery, strabismus surgery, glaucoma
surgery and LASIK surgery with the use of sophisticated devices. The Diabetic
Retinopathy Screening allows diabetic patients to
diagnose the condition early and receive effective treatment at reducing or
preventing damage to sight. Children afflicted by many eye diseases require special
knowledge and skills. The Pediatric
Ophthalmology Services at Drashti Netralaya manage any
such clinical or surgical eye problems efficiently.
Drashti
Netralaya stationed at the tri-junction of Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya
Pradesh has been consistently providing eye care delivery especially to the
underprivileged tribal population. The
Mobile Camp and the Mobile
Vision Centre, which is a clinic on wheels
reaches to the remote population providing eye care services and also create
awareness. The School
Eye Screening identifies children with impaired
vision due to refractive errors and they are timely helped.
After
achieving paramount success, the journey continues for creating a brighter
future for the residents of neighbouring small villages. It surely acts as a ray
of hope in transforming millions of lives.
